FOLKLORE MUSEUM The folklore museum was founded by the 'Nikolaos Dimitriou' cultural foundation of Samos. This museums' purpose is to give a complete view of the islands' life before the 2nd World War and to present all the elements and to present all the elements composing the tradition of Samos. It was founded in order to contribute to the islands' cultural development.
Educational displays with the participation of the students reviving old customs are on the yearly schedule of the foundation. There are also workshops where the visitor can see the making of the exposed objects.
The museum was based on donations from people wanted to preserve the traditions and objects of the past. In the museum the visitor can see farming tools used at different times and for different agricultural activities.
Different types of bread and each shape's symbolism are also displayed in the museum's show-cases as well as shepherds' tools used to make cheese, fishing tackle, shoemakers' kit, basket-makers' tools, etc. There is also a barbershop of the principality's time. In the museum's yard there are replicas of the traditional professions of the island. For instance the visitor can see a fully equipped potter's workshop, a blacksmith's forge, a carpenter's workshop and the wine-press that every traditional household had, as well as a cellar.
All these exhibits offer a complete view of every day's life in old Samos.
